Arsenal has announced a £100,000 donation to local charities and organisations fighting the coronavirus crisis.

The Arsenal Foundation will donate the money to those organisations who are helping the members of the club’s local community who are most in need, and the club says it is also in dialogue with Islington Council and the NHS to ensure the response is targeted in the best way possible.

On top of the donation, a further £50,000 which has already been donated to local community initiatives by The Arsenal Foundation will be redirected to Islington Giving’s Crisis Fund as part of the community response, according to the club.

“Arsenal Football Club exists to make our fans proud and create a sense of community for people in Islington, across the UK and around the world,” said Vinai Venkatesham, Managing Director, Arsenal Football Club.

“During these uncertain and unprecedented times, we will endeavor to ensure that remains the case.”

As well as financial support, the club has also made all of its Arsenal in the Community cars available to transport frontline NHS mental health workers, and will be driven on a voluntary basis by Arsenal in the Community staff. The club says this service will support NHS workers in delivering vital medication and emergency supplies.

Meanwhile, Arsenal is also seeking to create new digital resources for primary school children and other regular participants that are being asked to stay at home, with online versions of its Double Club education programme, which combines football and learning, to be rolled out.
