Arsenal join pursuit for Sporting Lisbon teenager

Arsenal have joined the race for the signature of Sporting Lisbon teenager Joelson, although the Portuguese are attempting to sign the 17-year-old to a new contract, according to Record via Sport Witness).

That new contract could see a €100 million release clause inserted, but agent Kia Joorabchian’s good relationship with a number of Premier League clubs could see his client instead make the move to the Emirates Stadium.

Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also reportedly interested in Joelson, but it is now beloved that Arsenal may have moved to the front of the queue.

Arsenal and Chelsea set for transfer tug-of-war over German wonderkid

Arsenal and Chelsea could be about to go head-to-head for the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach teenager Kurt Kaan, according to The Sun.

Kaan is currently playing for Gladbach’s B team in the fourth tier of the German football pyramid and has caught the eye with a number of his performances this season.

Reports that Arsenal and London would have to pay £4 million for the attacking full back who has represented the German national team at youth level.

The 18-year-old is also believed to be attracting the attention of Fenerbahce and is under contract at Borussia Monchengladbach until the summer of 2022. He might find the prospect of a Premier League switch irresistible, though.

Arsene Wenger wrote letter to FA asking for throw-ins to be banned

Arsene Wenger contacted The FA to raise the idea of banning throw-ins and enforcing the cutting of the grass at the Bet365 Stadium on the back of Arsenal’s atrocious away record against Stoke City.

The Gunners struggled against the Potters in seven years under Tony Pulis, with Rory Delap’s long throw ins and the long grass at the Bet365 Stadium a consistently effective tactic against Wenger’s side.

“Wenger came one year [to a coaching conference] and complained about the grass being too long. He wrote a letter to the FA,” Pulis explained on the Peter Crouch podcast (via TalkSport).

“The referees and the linesmen had to come and measure the grass. I know he talked about banning throw-ins and saying they shouldn’t be allowed. That was all music to our ears.”
