Aston Villa in battle to stop O’Hare quitting after deal rejected
Aston Villa face the prospect of soon losing rising star Callum O’Hare unless they can secure him to a new deal, Football Insider understands.
The attacking midfielder, 21, is out of contract in the summer and is attracting widespread interest after an impressive season on loan at Coventry City.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club failed in their attempts to extend O’Hare’s contract last summer.
This came after the Midlands giants took up an option in April of last year to extend his deal by 12 months until June 2020.
Villa, who would be due a compensation fee for training costs were O’Hare to quit this summer, are set to make fresh attempts to keep him.
O’Hare is highly regarded within the corridors of power at Villa Park after coming through the youth ranks.
He made his Villa debut in the EFL Cup in 2017 and went on to make nine first-team appearances.
But O’Hare has spent the last 18 months developing his game away from his parent club.
He had a successful spell on loan at Carlisle United during the second half of last season before being a mainstay of the Coventry side this term who are well placed to secure promotion.
The Sky Blues top League One by five points and are in pole position to end their lengthy spell outside the top two divisions following football’s enforced break.
The attacking midfielder has made 18 league appearances among 39 in all competitions for Coventry, scoring four goals and supplying seven assists.
