Chelsea player ratings: Christian Pulisic bright but defence dire in FA Cup final defeat

Willy Caballero

Nice save early to settle the nerves. Couldn’t do much about the penalty and didn’t put much of a foot wrong in the first half.

It was a superb finish from Aubameyang to net the second. Didn’t do much wrong through the match. 6

Cesar Azpilicueta

Maybe the worst final he could have hoped for. Gave away the penalty for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to equalise and then went off in the 35th minute with a hamstring injury. 3

Kurt Zouma

The defence were all over the place at times in the first half and the high line was an issue. Moved to the right of the back three when Azpilicueta went off.

Similar in the second half, and he was beaten all ends up by Aubameyang for the second goal. Really not a great evening. 4

Antonio Rudiger

Poor at the beginning when he let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go for a chance. Struggled a lot with Nicolas Pepe’s skill.

Even worse in the second half as well, as the defender really didn’t put in a good performance. Positioning and performance was not good. 2

Reece James

Played really high and left the defence a bit exposed at times. Couldn’t really add much in the attacking sense, either and was kept quiet.

A bit more involved in the second half, and moved centrally at times to get the ball. But not enough impact in the match. 6

Mateo Kovacic

An early yellow card which was a worry, but his dribbling was superb at times to get Chelsea out of trouble. Struggled to get hold of the midfield halfway through the first half.

Very, very harsh to get the second yellow card to be sent off. Before that he had looked good and worked the ball well through the midfield. 6

Jorginho

Looked very comfortable at first, but then when Arsenal really got into the game Jorginho couldn’t really get a grip on the match.

A period of the game managed to control the tempo, but really he didn’t do enough on the ball, with movement not good enough in front of him. 4

Marcos Alonso

Didn’t offer much going forward and at the back Pepe gave him some massive trouble going the other way.

It was similar in the second half as well, with Alonso not really providing much going forward and defensively struggling to get a grip on proceedings. 5

Mason Mount

His pressing early on was excellent. Had a shot when he should have passed to Giroud. As the half went on, he struggled to get on the ball.

Looked the brightest for the Blues when Pulisic went off and worked the ball well. But lacked support from behind to make an impact. 7

Olivier Giroud

Nice flick for the opening goal and started well. However, he struggled to have much of an impact on David Luiz, who defended him well.

The second half he couldn’t really wrestle away from his grip and couldn’t have the impact he has since the restart. 6

Christian Pulisic

A wonderful start to the game with an excellent move and then superb finish for the opening goal. Looked really impressive once again.

A huge blow to see him hobble off injured. 7

Substitutes

Andreas Christensen (on for Azpilicueta 35′)

Didn’t look certain in the defence as well and didn’t really help solidify them throughout the game. Got beaten by Hector Bellerin for the second goal. 4

Ross Barkley (on for Mount 78′)

Not enough forward impetus when he came on and no creativity. 5

Callum Hudson-Odoi (on for Rudiger 78′)

No really chance to get at the Arsenal defence. 5

Pedro (on for Pulisic 49′)

A bright introduction, but faded as the half went on. 5

Tammy Abraham (on for Giroud 78′)

Didn’t have a chance to work with throughout his appearance. 5
