Chris Sutton backs Arsenal linked Celtic man Odsonne Edouard to emulate Virgil van Dijk
Former Celtic striker, Chris Sutton, has backed current Bhoys forward Odsonne Edouard to go right to the very top amid reported interest from Arsenal.
The Gunners are said to be keen on the striker after an impressive season up in Scotland. Edouard has rattled in an impressive 27 goals in all competitions this season.
That form has, understandably, caught the eye of Premier League clubs, with The Express reporting the Gunners are keen on bringing the striker to The Emirates.
And former Celtic striker Sutton, who played both in Scotland and the Premier League, claims Edouard can emulate Virgil van Dijk in terms of impact.
“The French striker is going to the very top just like van Dijk and he’s been sensational,” Sutton said in his column for the Daily Record.
“The striker can do everything. He links the game, he makes runs, he creates and he is a quality finisher. Edouard really assumed the mantle of responsibility as Lennon chased the nine last season and delivered in emphatic style for his boss and team.”
Such glowing praise is good news for Eduoard, especially from someone who is so highly thought of at Celtic Park.
Edouard, who is still only 22, has scored 60 times in 126 appearances since signing for the Bhoys. It’s little wonder, then, that the likes of Arsenal are so keen on acquiring his services.
Glowing praise and Arsenal would be silly not to follow up their interest – TBR View
Chris Sutton is known for being quite a hard man to please at times. It goes without saying, then, that for him to praise Edouard means the Celtic man is doing something right.
The praise is deserved, too. The 22-year-old has been breathtaking and is well on the way to going down as a Celtic legend.
The problem is, of course, that the club may struggle to keep him. Premier League riches can often speak volumes and if Arsenal do come up with the cash, then it’s hard to see Edouard saying no.
