There may be no Premier League football to watch at the moment for Crystal Palace fans.

But Palace are still in the news amid the suspension of Premier League football due to the coronavirus outbreak.

From Wilfried Zaha’s amazing gesture for NHS staff to the granting of approval for Palace’s plans for the academy, there has still been plenty of news surrounding the Eagles.

And that has continued in the last few days.

Below, we look at the latest Palace news.

Eagles star included in team of the season

Each week, former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks names his team of the week following the Premier League action.

In previous seasons, Zaha has been a regular in this team, but during the current campaign it has been one of his team-mates that has featured more often than any other Palace player.

And that player is not goalkeeper Vicente Guaita or top scorer Jordan Ayew.

Both of them have impressed, but it is actually defender Gary Cahill who has featured more than any other Palace player.

The former Chelsea man has featured four times so far this season in the BBC pundit’s team of the week.

Crunching the numbers from Crooks’ team of the week selections so far this season, a  Reddit  user has worked out the team of the season so far, with Cahill included in it.

He is the sole Palace representative in the team, which is comprised of players from Premier League leaders Liverpool, second-placed Manchester City and four other clubs.

Surprisingly, City have the most players in the team with three (Ederson, Fernandinho and Kevin De Bruyne), while Liverpool (Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane) and Manchester United (Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes) both have two each.

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy make up the rest of the team.

Of all those, De Bruyne has been picked the most times, featuring 11 times in Crooks’ team of the week so far this season.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Fernandes has been included four times, despite only joining the Red Devils in January.

Alexander Sorloth latest

The future of Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth continues to be the subject of much speculation.

The Norwegian striker has been in fine form on loan at Trabzonspor, with the 24-year-old scoring 25 goals in 39 appearances for the Turkish Super Lig side.

His form has attracted attention from other clubs across Europe, with Serie A duo Napoli and AC Milan both reported to be interested in signing Sorloth this summer.

And the latest reports from Italy suggest that Napoli are confident of signing a striker in the summer transfer window, with Sorloth and Zenit St Petersburg’s Sardar Azmoun both on their radar.

Aston Villa have also been linked with the Norwegian, who recently spoke out amid shock links with Real Madrid.

Alexander Sorloth of Trabzonspor

But Sorloth recently outlined his intentions ahead of the summer, with Trabzonspor understood to have an option to buy the striker for €6million as part of the deal.

“Currently I am planning to stay at Trabzonspor over the summer transfer window,” Sorloth was quoted as saying to Turkish publication Milliyet.

“Returning to the Premier League is not on my mind right now, this is down to the club. I am at a team fighting for the championship and the highest scorer in the league.

“The Super Lig is a top league. If we win the title I will be playing Champions League next season so I am in no hurry to leave.

“Of course, you can never rule anything out in football but like I said I am in no rush to leave.”
