Crystal Palace are without a game in the Premier League this weekend as the Eagles enjoy a winter break.

With the Premier League fixture schedule for matchweek 26 split over two weekends, Palace are one of the sides not involved this coming weekend as Roy Hodgson’s men take a break from top flight action.

Palace were beaten 3-1 by Everton in their last game at Goodison Park on Saturday, leaving Roy Hodgson’s men in 14th place in the Premier League with 12 games to go.

With Bournemouth losing 2-1 against Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion and Watford drawing 1-1 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, Palace are now six points above the bottom three.

However, some teams below them do now have a game in hand, with the Eagles not playing again until Saturday, February 22, when they host Newcastle United at Selhurst Park.

Below, we take a look at the latest Palace news.

Ipswich Town confirm striker interest

Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham made the move to join Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on loan in January.

The former Sunderland forward joined the Owls on deadline day on a deal until the end of the season, having found his opportunities limited at Selhurst Park in recent seasons after recovering from a succession of injury problems.

He was not short of options, with Bristol City, Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest also linked with the 26-year-old.

But he also had the option to return to former club Ipswich Town, it has been confirmed by Tractor Boys boss Paul Lambert.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, he said: “We couldn’t get one. We tried for a lot of guys. I enquired about the lad Connor Wickham who was here.

“Dear oh dear… Lee (O’Neill, general manager of football operations) spoke to his agent and the money was [puffs cheeks out]. It was incredible. We don’t have that money.”

Simon Jordan’s verdict on Roy Hodgson

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has delivered a warning over Roy Hodgson’s future with the Eagles.

The Palace boss is out of contract this summer in south London, although he has had talks with Eagles chairman Steve Parish over a new deal.

But Jordan believes Palace need to consider what they want as he questioned whether Hodgson is the right man to take the club forward, despite having guided the Eagles to 11th and 12th placed finishes over the past two seasons.

“He is a safe pair of hands and it kind of feels that he sets them up not to be beaten rather than to win games, which I’ve never much liked,” he told Talksport.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson

“You are now in a situation where they are not scoring goals, which is a problem. They’re not setting out to win games. It seems to me they are in a slight challenging period.

“I don’t think they will get relegated, because I think they did enough at the beginning of the season. It is an interesting one, I can’t see Wilfried Zaha staying past this season, so all of a sudden you’re taking out your key player.

“It looks like they are going to need a rebuild. Whether Hodgson is going to take you forward, I don’t think Roy is going to take you forward, I think he is going to keep you where you are.

“All season Roy Hodgson has said from the get go: ‘We’ve got to stay in this division’.

“That is kind of like, wow, if you’re a Palace fan you’re not looking upwards, you are looking at staying in the division, and I thought we’d have moved on from that perspective.”
