Mohammed Salisu’s £11 million move to Southampton is ’80 to 90 per cent done’, a family member of the Real Valladolid defender has told Nhyira FM, as translated by Modern Ghana.

Speculation has gone into overdrive in recent days regarding the future of the 20-year-old La Liga player.

But there is more to this than mere paper talk.

Speaking earlier this week, Valladolid’s sporting director Miguel Angel Gomez confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in football, stating that Salisu’s move to England could ‘become official’ later this very week.

The Express, meanwhile, claims that the Ghanaian has already passed a medical at Southampton.

With the move edging closer and closer, the player’s family have made a statement of their own.

“For now, we don’t want to say anything about the move because we’re waiting for the official confirmation,” said spokesperson Abdul Mustapha.

“Salisu will be leaving Real Valladolid for a Premier League club, I can assure everyone for that but let’s wait.

“His move to the Premier League is about 80 to 90 per cent done but let’s wait for Southampton to announce the deal.”

Salisu, who only made his La Liga debut for a Valladolid side owned by Brazil legend Ronaldo, is perhaps the epitome of the typical Southampton signing.

Like Sadio Mane, Jan Bednarek, Virgil van Dijk and more, Salisu will be arriving on the South Coast as a young, hungry talent who is yet to even scratch the surface of his potential.

Yet, with the Saints looking to shed their ‘selling club’ image, do not automatically assume that he will leave for a Liverpool or a Manchester United in a year or two for a fee far larger than £11 million.

AS states that Salisu will sign a four-year contract with a weekly wage of £35,000.
