Frank Lampard has been told who Chelsea should sign next after top transfer target Kai Havertz.

While Lampard is busy preparing his players for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley, things are moving fast behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge.

Bayer Leverkusen star Havertz is believed to be Chelsea‘s priority target with the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech already in the bag for a combined £89million.

The west London side have also been linked with Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice as Lampard’s beefs up his squad ready for a fresh assault on the Premier League and Champions League next season.

But once the expected signing of Havertz is wrapped up – which is set to cost Chelsea upwards of £70m – the next position they should target is a goalkeeper.

Kai Havertz is believed to be Chelsea‘s top transfer priority – but will cost big money

That’s the opinion of former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov – and the player he suggests is one who has been heavily linked with Chelsea this summer.

“They for sure need a goalkeeper and Jan Oblak would be a great option,” Berbatov told Betfair.

Oblak, 27, is regarded as one of the world’s finest keepers, but with three years left on his contract at Atletico Madrid, he would be expected to cost the Blues around £72m.

On top of the cash already splashed to land Werner and Ziyech from RB Leipzig and Ajax respectively, plus the expected outlay on Havertz, that would appear to be a stretch – especially after Chelsea spent a similar amount on Kepa Arrizabalaga two years ago.

Jan Oblak has been tipped to solve Chelsea’s goalkeeping problems but could prove out of reach

Manager Lampard appears to have lost confidence in Arrizabalaga, having dropped the £71.5m man for last Sunday’s crucial clash with Wolves, in favour of veteran Willy Caballero.

Another option for the Blues could be Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with Spanish radio station Cadena Ser having reported that Chelsea have made an offer to the 28-year-old.

Ter Stegen is contracted to Barca for another two years, so like Oblak could be difficult to prise away. But Lampard is believed to have been impressed with the German international’s composure on the ball and distribution.

Whether or not Chelsea land one of their goalkeeper targets this summer, Berbatov has been impressed with Lampard’s signings so far – and says Havertz would be an “amazing” addition.

“Timo Werner was a good deal, and Willian looks like he might stay if they win the FA Cup,” said Berbatov ahead of Saturday’s final.

“There are still rumours about Kai Havertz who would be an amazing player for them.”
