When it comes to Leicester City training sessions, Papy Mendy and Jamie Vardy are the opposite ends of the scale, Jonny Evans has said.

While the Northern Ireland centre-back picked out Mendy as the club’s hardest worker at Belvoir Drive, Vardy ranks towards the bottom.

Asked by his former Manchester United team-mate Wes Brown whether Vardy was the best trainer at City, Evans replied: “No, he’s the worst!

“He’s a bit in the (Carlos) Tevez mould. You remember? He didn’t get off his arse all week and then as soon as gameday comes, he can turn it on.

“We’ve got a couple of good trainers. We’ve got a little lad, Mendy, his stats are through the roof every day. Ndidi is another one, he’s a good trainer.

“A lot of our training sessions are quite intense. It’s not one of those places where you just chill out for the week. We train quite hard and I think that prepares us well.”

Mendy is currently in talks with City over a new contract as the club look to keep the French midfielder around for a bumper campaign next season that will include Europa League football.

The 28-year-old is now out of contract after the conclusion of his four-year deal at the King Power Stadium, Mendy first signing in 2016 when he joined from Nice in a then-club-record £13m switch.
