Jack Vale penalty salvages a point for Blackburn Rovers U23 against Southampton
Blackburn Rovers U23’s came from behind to rescue a 2-2 draw against Southampton U23’s.
Rovers were the better side for large periods of the game and their first-half dominance was rewarded when Ben Paton drove forward from midfield and unleashed a sensational strike from 30-yards out.
With Paton giving Adam Armstrong a run for his money in the distance shooting competition, Rovers’ performance levels dipped in the second-half and Southampton were clinical to turn the game in their favour.
First, Will Ferry provided Southampton with an equaliser as he thundered an effort beyond Joe Hilton at the near post, before Daniel N’Lundulu capitalised on a rebound from Pascal Kpohomouh’s hopeful effort to give the visitors a surprise lead.
Rovers hassled and harried their opponents, with Southampton looking dangerous on the counter, but they finally found their reward in the 84th minute when Jack Vale was brought down in the penalty area and the forward made no mistake from the spot.
Billy Barr’s side could have gone on to win it, but Vale was unable to guide his header on target from 10-yards-out.
