Latest Championship transfer rumours as Stoke City’s rivals close in on deals

With the transfer window now open, Championship clubs will be keeping themselves busy over the next month or so as they prepare for the new season.

It’s a quick turnaround as the 2020/21 campaign is set to get underway next month, with matters still to be decided from the previous season.

Brentford take on Fulham in the play-off final on Tuesday, August 4, when we’ll find who will claim the final promotion spot to the Premier League.

Here are the latest transfer rumours and gossip coming from the Championship.

Second Brewster loan on table

Liverpool could look to send Rhian Brewster back out on loan next season after Swansea City boss Steve Cooper said he wanted to keep hold of the striker.

The 20-year-old scored 11 goals in 22 appearances while on loan with the South Wales club, including one in their second leg play-off defeat to Brentford.

And Cooper is hopeful the Swans can secure Brewster’s services again, saying: “It goes without saying we’d really like to keep Rhian.

“We have a very good relationship with Liverpool and we have spoken openly about the idea of continuing the loan.”

Watford close in on Ngakia

Watford are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with former West Ham defender Jeremy Ngakia.

The 19-year-old is a free agent after rejecting a new deal at the London Stadium in favour of regular first-team football elsewhere.

The right-back now looks set to make the move to Watford as they prepare for life back in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League.

According to the Evening Standard, a deal is close to completion and, should it go through, Watford will have to pay a compensation fee to West Ham as part of FA rules on free transfers for players under 24.

Arsenal set asking price for Balogun

Arsenal have named their price for Brentford target Folarin Balogun, who has just one year left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The 19-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Gunners, but is still set to command a sizeable fee given his time in the club’s youth teams.

According to West London Sport, Brentford have made an approach for Balogun, having reportedly missed out on him during the January window.

The price is not said to deter the Bees, who will be aiming to secure promotion to the Premier League when they face Fulham in the play-off final at Wembley.
