Major transfer update emerges about Premier League star linked with Leicester City
The midfielder has been linked with Leicester City and Everton, as well as Spurs.
And the London club are optimistic of landing the 24-year-old, according to The Telegraph.
The report adds that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho will have to sell players in order to raise funds to pay for Hojbjerg, who has been valued at £35million and is said to be keen on the move.
The Denmark international has publicly expressed his desire to leave St Mary’s – and was stripped of the Southampton captaincy when the team returned to action following the coronavirus shutdown.
In an interview with German media outlet SPORT1 last month, he said:
“I know what I want, the club knows it too.
“I want to play at an even higher level than I am currently. The relationship between me and Southampton is fantastic.
“The club gave me the platform to grow. I’m not saying goodbye and I’m focused on my club, but my goal is very clear.
“I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.”
Hojbjerg has one year left to run on his current contract at Southampton.
Earlier this month, Saints chief executive Martin Semmens told the BBC: “If there’s a club out there that can win the Champions League and they think Pierre can improve their team, if they can pay for him, then we have to let him go.”
It is reported that Spurs could offer Southampton Kyle Walker-Peters – currently on loan at St Mary’s – as part of the deal.
