Man United eye Luis Campos, amid Spurs and Newcastle links
ESPN have claimed that Manchester United are now considering a move for Lille’s sporting director Luis Campos amid reports that Newcastle United have rejected an offer – and that the Portuguese supremo was on his way to Tottenham.
Campos, 55, has been largely credited with masterminding Lille’s rapid improvement over the last few years – pushing the French side into the Champions League where they faced Chelsea, Ajax and Valencia this season.
Reports emerged on Tuesday night that Tottenham were close to securing Campos while Newcastle had a huge offer rejected by the Portuguese transfer chief. However, Campos has asked to leave Lille after a fall-out with owner Gerard Lopez.
That is according to ESPN, who state that Campos is ready to leave Lille – and a return to Monaco is on the cards, with Tottenham not interested. The report states Chelsea have previously eyed Campos, while Manchester United are interested.
TBR’s view – Campos would take United to the next level
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for his signings since taking as manager of Manchester United. Dan James, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo have all impressed under his stewardship.
But many have voided their displeasure at Ed Woodward and bringing a sporting director would ease the pressure on the United chief. If they are to lure anyone to Old Trafford, Campos would be a stunning addition.
