Man Utd news: Solskjaer receives Donny van de Beek boost as Ajax star make statement | Football | Sport
Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has dismissed reports he’s on his way to Real Madrid. The Netherlands international has been linked with a move away from the Dutch champions for several months.
A slew of teams are said to be keen on acquiring the 22-year-old’s services, including Real Madrid.
Real boss Zinedine Zidane is said to be a big admirer of the Dutchman and keen to acquire his services in the summer.
And according to reports, the Spanish champions have already made overtures to sign the midfielder – with it being claimed a deal has already been reached.
Van de Beek is adamant that’s not the case and insists suggestions he’s on his way to the Bernabeu are ‘premature’.
Van de Beek’s denial of having agreed a deal to join Real will be welcome news to Premier League big boys Manchester United.
The Red Devils are reportedly interested in signing the playmaker in the summer as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours next season.
It’s unclear whether Ajax will be willing to part company with Van de Beek given the imminent departure of Hakim Ziyech, who will join Chelsea in the summer.
Van de Beek is over the moon for his team-mate’s impending move to Stamford Bridge, saying: “I wish him everything and hope he will do very well there.
“It is a step he deserves in my opinion. He is a fantastic football player, so I am confident that he will do well.
“I think it’s a very nice club with a lot of young players that can grow. I think Hakim will certainly be in (the right) place.
“Everyone, of course, had their opinion about that, but I think it’s a nice club for him.”
Van de Beek and his Ajax team-mates will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, welcoming RKC Waalwijk to the Johann Cruyff Arena.
