Report: Bournemouth think they can get £40m for West Ham and Newcastle target

West Ham United and Newcastle United may have to pay £40 million if they hope to sign David Brooks this summer, with The Sun reporting that Bournemouth believe that they can get that kind of fee for the Wales international.

Brooks is a wanted man following the Cherries’ relegation to the Championship. Sky Sports recently claimed that the Hammers and Magpies want the 22-year-old, while Crystal Palace and Leicester City are also monitoring the youngster.

The attacking midfielder endured a tough campaign. He made only nine appearances in the Premier League, scoring once.

He has struggled with injury during his time at the Vitality Stadium. Nevertheless, it appears that Bournemouth have no intention of accepting a low offer for the former Sheffield United youngster.

It remains to be seen if any of Brooks’s admirers are willing to pay £40 million. But it would not be a surprise if some were put off by the reported demands.


However, any side that takes the gamble and meets Bournemouth’s asking price can surely be optimistic that a deal that could prove to be a masterstroke in time.

Brooks is an incredibly exciting talent. And given how close they were to staying up, it is difficult to imagine Bournemouth going down if he had been available for a lot more of the campaign.

His lack of game-time does make making a £40 million move look like a risk. But he has the talent to prove an inspired signing if he can stay fit.
