Can Northern Ireland shock Holland?

O’Neill said: “It will be difficult but we went to the 92nd minute in Rotterdam until they scored the second goal. We’d led but we couldn’t hang on. It was a bit of a freak goal… and we felt a little hard done by on the night. We limited them to very few chances, particularly in the first half.

“We watched the game back with the lads yesterday and I think there’s confidence and belief we can get a result tomorrow night.”

What has been Northern Ireland’s secret to success?

He said: “There’s two things I think. It’s down to a good structure, a good way of working. We don’t really tamper too much with how we play, system wise.

“The only time we have to change things tactically is if we have an injury to a key player and we don’t have a like-for-like replacement so we have to possibly play three at the back instead of four.

“The other thing is we have a great set of lads, probably underrated.

“We have Steven Davis and tell me a more underrated player in the Premier League. Jonny Evans is a top, top player, Craig Cathcart is a top player and other players in the Championship, like Stewart Dallas who is having a great season at Leeds.

“We have a nucleus of good players and a real consistency in the team. We pick 25 players for this squad and didn’t have a single withdrawal. That builds a good spirit and a good camaraderie when we’re away.”
