These 10 super transfers all cost less than Leicester City’s ‘valuation’ of Chelsea-linked star
Reports suggest the England left-back is a prime target for Chelsea ahead of next season, but in recent days, there has been a twist.
Reports suggest City value Chilwell at £82m with their star left-back under contract until 2024.
The Foxes have a policy of not putting price tags on players they don’t want to sell, but if that is how much they value Chilwell, where would that place him in the list of most expensive players?
From Neymar Jr to Gareth Bale, only 10 players have been sold for a bigger price than £82m, making some big old transfers cheaper than what Chilwell would cost if reports are to be believed.
We take a look at some of those mega-deals below.
Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo sealed his dream move to Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 for £80m.
That turned out to be a bargain for the Spanish giants who, after winning everything there is to win with the Portuguese star, sold him for £8m more to Juventus nine years on.
Harry Maguire to Manchester United
This is one City fans will know well.
The transfer saga of last summer finally came to an end when Maguire joined Manchester United for around £80m.
Maguire, who is currently the world’s most expensive defender, made 69 league appearances for the Foxes across two years.
Gonzalo Higuaín to Juventus
Juventus sealed the deal to take Gonzalo Higuain to Turin from Napoli in 2016 for a mouth-watering £75.3m.
He has scored 45 times in 95 league games for the Serie A giants so far.
Romelu Lukaku to Man Utd
The Red Devils feature again on this list for their signing of Lukaku from Everton in 2017 for £75m.
The Belgian would go on to score 28 times in 66 Premier League outings, and that’s not the last we will see of him.
Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool
The footballing world took notice when Liverpool broke the transfer record for a defender by signing van Dijk for £75m from Southampton in 2018.
That fee is no longer the record, and given what the Dutchman has gone on to do at Anfield, this fee is no longer looked upon as a pricey one.
This signing proved a steal for the Reds.
Luis Suarez to Barcelona
After missing out on the Premier League title in dramatic fashion, Suarez swapped Merseyside for Catalonia.
The Uruguayan superstar made the switch on a £65m deal, going on to amass an incredible scoring record of 142 league goals in 180 outings, winning four league titles and a Champions League in the process – and he’s not done yet.
Romelu Lukaku to Inter
Lukaku is back, and this time he is leaving Old Trafford.
The Belgian striker left United after two years to join Inter.
The Red Devils lost just £1m on their signing of Lukaku, selling him for a reported £74m.
Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal
Another recent one.
Arsenal signed Nicolas Pepe for £72m from Lille last year.
The Ivorian has four goals in 23 league appearances so far.
Kepa to Chelsea
Chelsea splashed out a sizeable figure in their bid to replace Real Madrid-bound Thibaut Courtios in 2018.
Kepa cost them £71.7m and he has proven himself as a sound investment.
Lucas Hernandez to Bayern
French talent Lucas Hernandez was snapped up by Bayern Munich last summer in a surprise move.
He swapped La Liga for the Bundesliga with Bayern paying £70m for the 24-year-old’s services.
