Watford and Bristol City eye move for former Wigan Athletic defender
Watford are battling Bristol City for the signature of centre-back Chey Dunkley.
The defender is out of contrat at Wigan Athletic this summer and likely to depart the DW Stadium with the Latics still in administration.
A report in the MailOnline says the Hornets are fighting it out with City for the player’s signature ahead of the new campaign.
Dunkley, 28, scored six goals in 28 games for Paul Cook’s side over the first half of the past season.
His season was ended though with a double leg break suffered in the 3-0 win at Reading in February at the Madejski Stadium.
Dunkley started out his career at Crewe Alexandra but he made his name during a two-year spell at Oxford United.
He joined Wigan in 2017 and went on to play more than 100 games for the Latics.
The report says Watford have identified the player with the need to ‘boost their homegrown quota’ in mind as they get ready for life in the Championship for the first time since 2015.
