Wolves defender Matt Doherty makes Arsenal admission
Matt Doherty has admitted to Wolverhampton Wanderers’s official website that he continues to look out for Arsenal’s results having supported the Gunners as a youngster.
Doherty is one of a number of Wolves players who have been a revelation since arriving in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old has provided eight goals and six assists in the top flight from right-back since Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were promoted.
With Wolves also battling in the Europa League this term, you would imagine that Doherty has enough on his plate.
But it turns out that he also makes sure that he is aware of how Mikel Arteta’s men are getting on. The defender provided an insight into when his love for Arsenal began, and what it was like to come up against the Gunners.
“Even now, I look out for their results and now I get to play and score against them, which is unbelievable.”
His love for Arsenal may leave Doherty with a greater excitement for the season restarting at some stage.
Arteta was set to take his side to Molineux in mid-April. Of course, it may be some time before that fixture takes place. In fact, most fans are anticipating that it may be a while before they even find out the new dates for the remaining games.
But, while Doherty will be hoping to help Wolves to a positive result when the fixture does take place, he will be pleased to see Arsenal moving in the right direction under Arteta.
